Honeyeater Farm

Description

Honeyeater Farm is 11 hectares (27 acres) of undulating land in Woombye, Queensland, in the foothills of the Blackall Range.

The Hughes family have lived and worked on Honeyeater Farm for three generations starting in the 1950s as a pineapple farm, then a strawberry and avocado farm in the 1980s.  And is now  managed by brothers Lachlan and Riley Hughes, with help from their family and friends.

In the late 1990s, conventional farming on the land ceased. In the following decades the land was left to regenerate.

In 2021, the land began its transition to an organic market garden.

Natural ecosystems on the farm include remnant gallery rainforest and Flooded Gum open forest, and are managed through the Land for Wildlife program. Waterways on the farm include several lower order streams that flow into Paynter Creek.
